He was adjusting to his day. His bookbag not completely on, flip phone open in hand, cheeks flush, he bobbed and weaved his just about four foot self through the thick of us adults just to arrive at the back door of the trolley to see the doors close. I pushed the button to ring the bell and a chorus of voices bellowed out “Back door”. “Step down,” I told him and smiled. The trolley lurched to a stop, opened the doors, and the porcelained skinned blonde haired boy was on his way.
I was still easing into my own day. I was headed to the gym, looking forward to restarting a once familiar routine. I’d been up for a couple of hours at this point, but lingered amid the deep plum colored sheets, sounds of the morning, and a let my fingers manage a sweet early morning text conversation. Despite the ease with which I was entering this blessed Wednesday, I was awake enough, aware enough, expectant enough, to be reminded in that moment, that I too have been that kid, making my way though the a circumstance, not completely having it together, navigating all that lies ahead and stands between me and my goal, and arriving what seems like too little and tool late. Until…until grace appears on the scene and sees to it that I get going towards my purpose.
Grace pushes buttons to ring bells, has folks speak up, and brings things to a halt, just for me, so that I can keep on keeping on. Grace pushes buttons to ring bells, has folks speak up, and brings things to a halt, just for you, so that you can keep on keeping on.
Grace is acutely aware of where it’s taking us in life. It won’t let us get too far gone without stepping in, even when we’re scrambling, stumbling, unprepared, or afraid. Grace won’t let us lose out and what’s even better, when we can’t, Grace will surround us with those who can. When we are too weary, frustrated, overwhelmed, anxious, or angry. When we feel too broken, unworthy, old, inexperienced, or messy. When we think we’ve been forgotten, that our current situation, those “closed doors,” are it, grace says “Nah,” I got you. Things come together so we can get it together and get going towards what we’ve been created for, saved for, purposed for.
Here’s my hope for you today, that as you ride the trolley of your life, trying to get where you need to go next, watching for your stop, handling your baggage (cause we all got baggage), trying to communicate, navigating the challenges in front of you (the layoff, loss, miscarriage, diagnosis, new job, marriage, faith crisis, dating, parenting, being a new entrepreneur, school, etc.) you hold onto the truth that God in all of His wisdom and grace has you. He sees you and knows you. He has sent people to ring bells, to call out, to instruct you and smile at you, because He is for you. Grace is for you. I don’t offer this hope for you blindly. I offer it amid keeping anxiety attacks at bay, a few family challenges, increased work responsibilities, and prepping for a significant business opportunity on the rise. I offer it amid my sleep schedule not quite having reset from recent travel on 5am flights, New York City lights, and late nights. I offer it amid managing my energy and availability to folks I care deeply about who are managing their own crises, some of which have been triggered by the current climate of our country here in the US and exposure to it via the media. I offer it sincerely, expectantly, and well, I offer it hopefully.
With Love,
Grit + Grace
